« Often it is the difficultly in securing enough investment capital to get to profitability. This is a high risk business and not all projects are successful. A talented team is also critical to the success of these innovations. Asymmetries between the innovation actors are indeed barriers in value creation. Investors often want short return times on their investment and some technologies take a long time to get to market. In some cultures, the amount of work it takes to get something to market would be viewed as intolerable and other SME’s can overtake them and get to market faster. The classic researcher verses business person can create challenges. A successful lab demonstration is not the same as a commercially viable product manufactured at price points that make it attractive in the market. »
